wyzard10
After seeing some videos its become apparent that the time fuse I have is pretty anemic. Is there any place that sells something other than the Chinese time fuse. I found one site called pyro pro that has it. Its Japanese made and its $40.00 for 60 feet of it. It would take me years to go thru that much time fuse. Does it have a shelf life or degrade over time?
marks265
The Jap fuse I have seems to be consistent through the years. I mainly make spolettes so my fuse has been around for many years. I actually like the fact that it is "seasoned". I think the tar solidifies better and doesn't smear when cut or manipulated. No matter the burn rate if you know what you have until you buy another roll.

schroedinger
If it is real japanese TF just buy a whole roll. It will be good for a couple of years and you will be amazed how fast you will need a new roll, specially if you advance into timed salutes. TYRONEEZEKIEL
I have a couple rolls I bought from Marc (Thepyropro) and after 2 years of shell building I havent gone through one roll yet. If you are using the stuff that has all white strings wrapped around it, throw it away. I used that stuff one year and half of my shells did not light. I was pretty upset. Now the stuff i use is substantially better.
pyrokid
My experiences with the cheap white time fuse are as follows: 1) I have had 100% success over about 30 instances when both ends of the fuse were primed with slurry of BP + 5% dextrin, then dipped into granulated BP while wet. 2) I have had many failures when the fuse was primed with strands of black match over the end of the fuse, cap plug style. It can be concluded that the spit from this fuse is weak. In my opinion it is a great low cost alternative for time fuse intensive applications, such as insert shells. wyzard10
The spit from it is indeed weak, more like a poof like a small candle flame at best. Do you think I need to use dextrin if I make the slurry with nc lacquer?
bpman
The latter is the best choice.
