zan89
hi! I would like to make yellow stars with that formula:Yellow StarPotassium Perchlorate – 65Sodium Benzoate – 11Strontium Carbonate – 4Red Gum – 12Charcoal – 3Dextrin – 5 I allready mix it, but i have some safety concern, if we take out 4 last chems we get formula close to whistle mix.. when i put it together i just mix it a little and try to ignite it about 1g. the stuff allmost explode not burnt!when i m reading about whistle it is super sensitive. I have two questions, first how to mix well composition safely(is it ok to normaly screen it?) and second how to make stars, i can rolle them or rame them with hamer with some kind of star pump, i dont have a star plate( i got it but it went to hell :/ ). Thanks for answers!
Zumber
Stay away from this formula. There are lots of other yellow formulas available in this forum.
zan89
ok stay away, but i allready mix 1,5kg of it.. :/ what would be the best?
Titanium
You asked about how to mix the composition safe, but already have mixed 1,5 kg's of it? If you want to pump them wet it with Water/Alcohol (90:10), but NEVER ram this composition because as you already said it's damn near to whistle mix so it's not really safe..I would say that you should never ram something other then Bp, especially no comp containing Ap, Metals or whistle mix

schroedinger
Well damm near to whistle is quite relative. If you take out the last 4 ingredients you take out 24 parts (benzoate is only 11 parts). Even if you only look at the fuel balance you still got nearly the tripple amount. Ramming this comp if wet, can work but pressing is safer and faster, just leave it alone. The comp gets mixed by screening.Screen everything though at least 80 mesh screen by itself. If possible screen all your fuels through #60 mesh together to prevent the formation of whistle and help with the waxy consistence of the benzoate., screen again with 50 % of the perc screen again with the whole perc (this just easens the mixing). Screen again. As you allready mixed them, you will need to screen the comp at least two times. Since you do not have a star plate, roll them or cut them. FlaMtnBkr
I wouldn't want to screen benzoate through an 80 mesh screen or even a 60 mesh being so waxy. It isn't needed either to just mix the composition. A 40 mesh is a good size to mix with and doesn't get bound up too bad with the waxy and sticky chemicals. But a window screen will work in a pinch and is better than nothing, though you may want to do it a couple extra times. Not everyone has expensive high mesh count screen and an aluminum window screen can work. You can also sometimes find some kitchen sieves that are pretty fine and closer to 30-40 mesh. Livingston
Screen it gently!!! Like FlaMtnBkr says and then cut them or roll them!! I've screen sum scary formulas and I'm still alive. Just screen a 100g at time. Next look for other not so sensitive formulas.
zan89
Thanks, then i'll screen it and cut it.
