Tweetybird88
Well as I am starting to assemble some shells for the first time for the upcoming holiday (4th of July) I was wondering a bit about comets. Can you just make them out of a big cut star, or do you have to pump it? Doesn't it burn right through the shell and cause like premature explosion (sorry, I'm at a loss for better wording)
Umphrey
Do you mean a tail comet? That is a comet attached to the shell's body, so as to produce a tailing effect. Doesn't it burn right through the shell and cause like premature explosion The answer is no, provided you're not using some super thin shells. The tail comet will only be burning for a few seconds, and the outer edge of the comet will be what is burning. Can you just make them out of a big cut star, or do you have to pump it? It depends on the comet size and composition, generally a smaller (3/4") could be a cut star, but it will be weaker, more inclined to crumble. It is in general better to pump your comets, they'll be rock hard and disinclined to shatter or crack when exposed to the shock of lift. Comets up to ~1.5" can be pumped by hand, any larger and you're better off pressing them(e.g. with a hydraulic or arbor press.)
