kaymo
Hi, I've never done anything of this sort before I was wondering what a good starting experiment and how and what to use for it? Thanks a lot if anybody decides to help out. :]
Mumbles
In pyro probably the single most important piece of the hobby is black powder. Nearly every device involves black powder in some shape or form. The proceedure to make it is useful in other aspects as well. There is plenty of information on the forums and throughout the internet on the ratios and proceedures. Another common starting place is smoke devices. After you have black powder down, rockets, fountains, and star mines are a common next step. asilentbob
Mumbles, perhaps we should have a "Starting out 101" sticky?
Mumbles
I've thought about writing something like that out, but never got around to it. Perhaps eventually. Your Workshop reference thing might be a good.
asilentbob
Yeah i think it could help a bit. That reminds me, on the whicitabuggywhip (sp) site there is a page of tables and alot of other quite relavant pyro infomation that i think could go with the refrence. I'm a little too busy right now though. I don't think she would mind as long as we give her credit for what she has done and link to her site. I'll have to email and ask her sometime. Mumbles
Yeah, talk to her. I am sure she'd let you. She is very nice. I've only met Danny in person, but I've traded a few e-mails with katharine.
hst45
kaymo, as Mumbles said BP is the place to start. It's the life blood of our hobby. I would advise you to stay away from the more energetic compounds such as flash and whistle until you're more experienced. Also remember that small is good. If you make a mistake with 5 grams of something you'll be saying "ouch, that was close.", but with 50 grams you might be saying "medic!". Also be very careful with incompatible compounds. Read everything you can get you hands on, and make good notes. Stay safe, and have fun.
