New Years Eve...getting ready?

asdercks

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I thought it'd be nice to start a thread (again) to share pics and comments and know how everyone is getting ready to receive the new year, this year my display will consist of a cake with 45- 2" shells (red, blue and green) 10- 2.5 glitter shells, 5- 3" shells (firefly) and 3-4" shells (still deciding the effect), so far I have all the 2" shells ready and the 2.5" will be done during the weekend

Shells look good asercks, should video your pasting technique. Looks tidy.

My nye prep is crawling along. Started a few thousand colour cores. And have 60lb of star comps in boxes all ready to be rolled. Just got to mix my glitters. Also have cut all my end discs. Mainly 3 & 6" cylinders this year. All cylinders are open, stacked and ready for stars. Spolettes are also in end discs.

I was just informed by my wife that we are supposed to go see some of her extended family with her parents for New Years. What in the $% is she thinking? This is the second most important day of the year, and I am supposed to travel eight hours (with six kids), put up with her family (and mine), and NO fireworks.... This aint gonna be good.

Asdercks- those shells are looking good. Are you hand pasting?

I have a few 4" shells but no mortar yet. I think the QM was the only thing that got real wet so it should be fine when I dry it out.

What a coincidence I too have some 4" shells but I don't have a mortar lol, it seems to me that you're going to be comparing/testing some of your shells or why would you have primed/ unprimed, rolled/pumped stars of the same comp.

All that running made me tired. The shell looked good, but i thought it was TT- Glitter.

I used this comp

Basic Firefly Aluminum firework star Composition

Potassium nitrate 49 parts

Air float charcoal 29 parts

80 mesh charcoal 11 parts

Sulfur 9 parts

Firefly aluminum 5 parts

Dextrin To taste

the aluminum I used was eckart 41813g but I did not screen it so I think there was lot o fine AL particles in the mix and that is why the stars looked like TT glitter

Hm, strange. Nice shell anyway mate, i wouldnt worry about it.

Dont know how much it matters, but my comp is similar but with 6parts sulfur.

Edit, sorry I had the names mixed up and thought fireflies looked different. Yours certainly look like fireflies to me, good ones too!
