pyroMIKE Posted October 8, 2014 Share Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) Gonna be shooting this shell in a couple days.Should be this weekend but the weather is not looking promising.It will be my first pumped star shell..D1 glitter with silver tail.I have tested the D1 stars and the C6-ti comets and they are gorgeous!No vids of those, I know Im a loser! These stars are rock hard and I want a BIG LOUD break so this is why I added 8 grams of slow flash. Couple og questions if you dont mind.1. How do you prime your pumped stars? Do you rewet them after dried?2. Your 7:1 bp:rh. i've been trying to optimalise this ratio (to deliver the effect, while saving millingtime and chemicals). What I notice is that your rice hulls are a bit visible through the layer of bp. Im currently using 4:1, and mine are completely covered in BP, can't see the hulls through. What gives?It is relevant to mention that I weigh my hulls in dry state, and they are as dry as they can get.Your hulls kind of look like mine when i use a ratio of about 2.5:1 (which i have found to work well).Any idea on this? pyroMIKE Posted November 7, 2014 Author Share Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) Use an atomizer spray bottle and lightly coat the stars with water(after the stars have dried) then lightly dust meal on them rolling them gently.As for my bpcrh, I think my hulls were not wet enough so some of the edges on very little of the hulls were showing.Im not really worried seeing an edge of the hull here or there.To be honest I dont even need to use a booster with this bpcrh.I only added some on this shell to try and get the stars spread out as far as possible without blowing blind.All 7 parts of BP were used and stuck to the hulls. 21oz of meal/3oz of rice hulls.Also dont forget to de-dust your hulls before you weigh the hulls you are going to use. Will dedust the hulls next time, although there is no visible dust (im still taking from the top of the bag).As for booster on a 6", I agree that it's not really necessary. My 6" was pretty nice without booster, and that was even my old charcoal based BP, it was pretty slow compared to my current BP (and yours, most probably). I'm sure its nice with a bigger break though, especially for bigger stars i guess.Still waiting for your video, looking forward to it! pyroMIKE Posted November 8, 2014 Author Share Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) As far as de-dusting the rice hulls, use a kitchen screen(10-12 mesh) to de-dust..That will take out the small half hulls or rice hull flakes..Some smaller full hulls will be lost but really I have found de-dusting the hulls enhance the bpcrh.More consistent sized FULL hulls works well just as consistent sized stars.Its just me but I literally do not take shortcuts.Building shells takes time so I may as well do it right. It was a badass shell, however I think the stars burnt out a little fast. Im gonna make some changes on the next batch to burn off more slowly. The next one should be several steps better. If you liked D1, try out some Winokur's if you like glitters. There's a lot to choose from and so much to experiment with, the results are always different and sometimes hit that glitter sweet spot!!
