Salutes, Ratios, mistures

I am interested in using some leftover materials that just so happen to be perfect for salutes!
I would normally use just a simple 70/30 ratio of Potassium Perchlorate to Al powder, however, I have some extra materials I would like to incorporate into the mix so they are not sitting around anymore....

Rockets and Smartphones

Posted by nils in Nils' Sugar Rocketry, 15 April 2019 - - - - - - · 398 views

Once I wanted to record onboard video of my rocket flight. I had Sony Xperia Go smartphone which I didn't use anymore because it was outdated. It's video recording was still quite OK, so I decided to use it as video camera.
I was a beginner and for several reasons the flight failed. But I still got some video:

Homegrown Oxidizers Part Thirteen
WSM

As we continued our cell preparations by filling the titanium tubes spot-welded to our electrodes, we encountered a major setback. The thin-wall titanium tubing was seriously compromised by the spot welding process and leaked out some of the lead-free solder through the spot welds as we were trying to fill th...

Large Case Formers!

Do you really want one? Well, if you do and don't have a big lathe maybe these ideas can help you. I had a smaller cheapy lathe that I bought from a big box store. They don't sell them anymore and I burned mine up trying to make a former that is larger than an 8 inch'er. I contemplated what to do about this and I came up with a...

Correct core dia formula

Posted by Redrocketman in Redrocketman's Blog, 20 June 2016 - * * * * * · 573 views

When casting a cored r candy motor, is there a basic formula to determine core diameter. I believe core should be 1/3rd of the I/D of the grain / motor? Correct?
So if I was to cast my regular weekend blazer ( simple 400mm X 45mm nozzle-less ) I can figure out core diameter no problem, but is the a maximum allowable limit to how far into the motor,...

Tailing bombettes and other items

Posted by spitfire in spitfire's Blog, 22 September 2014 - * * * * * · 1,316 views

What is a bombette in the first place? Simply a tube shot from a small mortar, like we see in commercial cakes linked together to shoot 12, 19, 30 shots one after one. Each shot tube contains a slightly smaller tube containing a clay plug holding the delay fuse, stars and flash burst. When they are fired we see a colored rising tail. Red, green, gold, gli...

I've been working off of a supply of real black powder and using the one ounce per pound formula for decent altitude.  I'm going to run out of the real stuff soon, and am testing my black powder quality and production process to see what adjustments need to be made to get my shells into the air.  One thought was to have a two stage boost, one to...

The Bucket Cell - pH Meters and Probes

Very cool - a "Post to Blog" function.  I thought I'd give it a try, since this post has some hopefully good information in it.

pH Probes and Meters for the (per)chlorate process
