Dr Takeo Shimizu

Reported today on Passfire, by Mike Swisher:

"It is with great regret that I report that Takeo Shimizu died on February 14. He was 99 years old. This information was conveyed by a Japanese pyrotechnist friend to the Revd. Ron Lancaster this Friday and just today forwarded by him, so I have every confidence in the source."

Dr Shimizu was the author of "Fireworks: The Art, Science and Techniques" and other works. He spent his life working in pyrotechnics and was recognized as one of the foremost authorities in the industry. We shall not see his like again.

What to say. There are very few who have contributed so much to their field. It seems he lived a very full life and benefited many others. Best wishes to his family. Edited by NightHawkInLight

I believe his work, "FIREWORKS The Art, Science and Technique" to be the best book written on the subject in the English language in the twentieth century. Few were as tireless and thorough in their research, and none as diligent in preserving it in print for the benefit of all. We are all blessed by his efforts.

Humbly,

Pressed sixteen tons and what did I get,

Whistle all over and another case split;

Shimizu don't you call me 'cause I can't go,

I owe my soul to the Skylighter store.

Apologies to T. E. Ford.

RIP Doctor, your legacy goes on.
