Not directly related to pyro, but it shows the result of a careless moment. Although not mentioned in the article, I would guess that the extensive injury was cause by the container exploding.

I bet he tried dumping the BP strait from a goex can onto what he thought was a failed attempt at a fire, there was probably still an ember. It sounds as though he's gonna need a hand completing his trek, unfortunately for him I'm kinda attached to mine. I guess he'll think twice before grabbing the handy BP again.

Since BP doesn't 'explode' unless confined I think you hit the nail on the head NeighborJ.

I can think of so many better pyrotechnic compositions to start a fire other than black powder. Interesting choice.
