Hey Tex, I'm giving your formula a go. I've tried similar formulas but only using them in the winter when humidity is low. This time I've replaced the dex and a small amount of the charcoal with Phenolic resin resin and disolved it in alcohol. If I like the formula, I'll save some for use in the summer so I can see how it stores. The video looks nice, similar to Lloyd's buttered popcorn when made with MgAl instead of AL(my favorite).

Yeah your absolutely correct, but I prefer to say that the Phenolic works but it changes the effect-expecially with glitters. The comets are pressed and in the drying box. It's worth a try because otherwise in my climate the stars go stale. The resin tends to not release the metal or charcoal during the burn and ends up being a big clump of char. In the past I've added DE micro stars to force the glitter and charcoal from the surface. This may be the only option for me. It's a compromise.

It's a charcoal based comp with no sparking metal so I see no reason it can't be rammed, especially if dampened.

I am wondering how hard it is to get dry.

What size were those stars, since they burn so long? I wonder if you could substitute Phenolic for Dextrin?

Mike, I tried the Phenolic, it didn't work. The sodium nitrate wasn't aggressive enough and it burned like a chunk of wood.

I guess I'll have to pry my wallet open and order some NaNO3 and some more silica gel. I've got to try this glitter.

I may try using the same comp as a delay in my rocket rather than my usual Win 39J.

OM, try Lloyd's popcorn with coarse MgAl instead of fine AL. It looks identical and works for rocket delays.

Yeah, I like that idea better because I can store my rockets longer without that hygroscopic delay in there.

I wonder what that star would look like in a shell of shells?
