Ubehage
How safe is BP and Whistle mixed together? Would it be a problem to mix those 2 "green" mixes and wet them as one mass?
nater
http://www.creagan.net/fireworks/benzolift.html ------- I use a hybrid BP rocket fuel that is just granulated BP and Whistle mixed together like a salt and pepper mixture. Because of the whistle, it remains sensitive and burns quite energetic. Less so than straight, hot whistle, but much faster than BP. I treat all whistle comps with respect. At the same time, the isn't going to spontaneously ignite either.
Seymour
The only issue I see that is more relevant than just using plain whistle, is if you wet with water and use a Sodium salt fuel, it may be difficult depending on where you live to dry it. Personally I sometimes go as far as oven drying the Sodium benzoate, ball milling it, drying it again, and drying the KP, then mixing and quickly adding oil/wax/petroleum jelly in a solvent and drying that carefully to avoid moisture, and then triple bagging it with desiccant. Not a safety issue, and not relevant to all situations. You might not even be meaning wetting with water. Personally I find in the humid environment that I live in, moisture from the air can quickly ruin the performance of Na Benz whistle.
lloyd
Both saly and benz are hygroscopic. I have watched a pound of freshly-dried-and-screened saly gain three ounces of water in a couple of hours, just sitting in a pile on the screening paper! To answer the first question -- no danger mixing the two. Lloyd
