You may know this already but I am going under the knife Thursday, 8 procedures on both hands, some serious cutting and reconstruction to be done. I will be down for a while and frankly, I am a little frightened.

For those of you whom pray, I would like for you to set an alarm on your phones or whatever you have available and pray for healing and a successful surgery at 11:00 Central Time. This one will be the toughest one since the accident but will have the biggest payoff if successful.

Then, if you would, put me on your prayer list for the next month, pray daily for my attitude and faith, I will need a bunch of strong men of faith raising me up this time.

For those of you reading this that are offended by my persistent mentioning of faith in God, I assure you, this is no fad or wackadoodle thing, the power of simple prayer has far reaching consequences for me and my family, I was spared, I am sure because of interceding prayer.

God Bless,

David Gustafson

Absolutely Dave, the power of prayer is amazing and you will be in mine!! I couldnt imagine the loss of even partial use of my hands as a machinist they are my livelihood. ....

best of luck with your surgery and recovery.

Good look David. Good faith and support always helps, even when the God isn't involved. Good luck.

LOL! NOT offensive at all, I just wanted to make sure you all knew that it would be a specific topic and some wish to avoid that. I will take all your best wishes you can give me!! Thank you all, believe me, it DOES make a difference.

while irreligious and even horribly irreverent, you have all my best thoughts and wishes for you and your family. you already know that most of us here offer support and encouragement and you know that your wife and your little dags have your back. if there is anything i personally can do, never hesitate to make it known.

Dagabu,

Plenty of things to pray for lately and I never stopped praying for your continued recovery after the initial news of your accident.

Same goes for BurritoBandito, Mumbles and others who have suffered because of pyro accidents.

Keep your spirits up and attitude positive.

I'm also not of the religious sort, but I'm definitely not offended by you openly talking about the benefits of prayer.

Dagabu, you and your family have been through a lot. You have gone out of your way to help others learn from your accident and help others who are going through similar things.

I think that giving you a prayer, even if it's not what I normally do, is the least I can do.

As we say here in NZ, Kia Kaha (be strong)

I'm not religious as well, but I wish you the best possible success and also a quick recovery afterwards.

Your expertise will be missed here.

Dave,

You were the first that took an interest in my appearance here and we found some common stuff. I'm an admitted lurker only because I have so little to contribute and so much to learn. Your accident last year made me pretty much stop and evaluate if this was a direction I really wanted to take. Again, I'll admit to doing some pretty (now known as) stupid stuff when I was much younger but came away as simply fortunate. Since I was a new guy here and wasn't sure of my place, but mostly because I really didn't have what I thought might be a correct response to your tragedy I said nothing. I think now is a good time.....

You have my best and strongest prayers for success in your upcoming procedure. Religious? I'm a PK..... :P That said, I spent a lot of years proving I wasn't born with a halo and wings. I also have issues with organized religion, politics ruins everything. Anyway, science proves the existence of an afterlife. We all know nothing can be destroyed, only changed. Our energy, religious folks say soul, has to go and exist somewhere on some plane. We just don't know exactly what that is, some folks just have a name for it.

I've got a wife that has beat her cancer odds by a year and is still going. Every day, one day at a time, each day a blessing. The power of prayer? Just put it in secular lingo if it makes others more comfortable: the power of positive thinking. We have all been blessed with capabilities far beyond our imaginations. Does God heal us directly or has our design given us the power to heal ourselves IF we can muster the thought of that. I do believe that the human condition must have had some design or intervention other than "chance".

So Dave, my apologies to you for not supporting you at the time of your accident even though I thought about you often. I will keep you in my prayers.....everyday and especially I will pray for your surgeon that his skills might be at their very best when he works on your hands.

So yes, I've continued to hang out here and keep learning when I perhaps should have pulled the pin and returned to my other (numerous) interests. Yet, despite your experiences I have decided to pursue this. Toward that end, with your experience in mind (and now re-enforced by Burrito Banditos misfortune) I am now the proud owner of some pretty awesome PPE. Aluminized full hood with lexan face shield, apron, pants (too small for me, anyone use "large"?), protective footwear, heavy gloves and nomex coveralls. Paranoid? Nope. Just taking precautions in the event something stupid or unplanned happens.

Anyway, God bless you Dave and your family. I know how trying this stuff can be on those that love you.

Best always,

/m

Thanks SW, I will hurry back this weekend, gotta get these hands "declawed" and get some more range of motion. The absolutely worse problem I have is a simple task, washing my hands, the curved fingers get in the way!

Thanks R, that is a good mantra to repeat to myself, had a few hiccups this morning I am still trying to iron out, still on schedule for the morning though.

Dave,

I'm not much for religion, and even less for Reiki healing energies and the rest. That being said, I wish you nothing but the best and hope for a successful next step surgery.

In my prayers...don't know what I would have done without my faith and prayers and support from friends and family while undergoing colon cancer treatment. Keep us posted on your results.

Good luck in the morning. Prayers will be coming up from Kentucky. We aren't a bunch of Godless heathens down here (like everybody else on here... hahahahaha) :P

Attention Everyone: Please don't take offense, that was an attempt at humor. Laughter is good medicine.

I know prayer works. Given my history with the US it really takes an act of God to allow me to come back to the US. I don't care what everyone else says.

Blasphemy. Healing can only come from god. In the case of Jesus healing, he's just acting as a channel for gods healing.

I'm going to stop there. I'm a self-confessed non-believer. Of course i'm going to think about as highly of god, as of the almighty spaghetti monster. But if the thought of either brings comfort to someone, who am i to argue. And, who knows. If the judgment day comes, then i might find out i was wrong all along. I'll still stick to wishful well thinking, and hopeful well meaning, and hope everything turns out good.

Dagabu sure could use a good set of hands, with all the tooling he is announcing as of late. So, good luck, hope everything goes well.

B!
